What we are reading this week

Week beginning Sunday 23rd October 2012

Zach aged 4

Polar Bear, solar Bear.  What do you hear? by Bill Martin Jr & Eric Carle

Oldie but Goodie.  This actual copy has been going since I first bought it in 1995 for Salvarni, my eldest.  It travelled around with me when I taught in Primary schools and in the Pre-schools I managed.  Im so happy that Zach loves this book just like his brothers did before him.  A great book for the Early Years.  We all take it in turn to read it to him, but he knows the story pretty well now!

Biff's Wonder Words from the 'Read with Biff, Chip & Kipper' series created by Roderick Hunt & Alex Brychta for Oxford Reading Tree

A great for first word readers, easy words to sound out using phonetic knowledge.  Zach, and the rest of us, were super excited to know that he was blending well enough to read this book independently.  I must say that I also believe this has a lot to do with the Reading Eggs software he has been using, and of course reinforcement at school.  We will be reviewing Reading Eggs in the near future.  Watch this space!...

Alexander aged 7

The Golden Goose by Dick King-Smith; 1st time
James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl; 1st time reading alone
My Friend Walter by Michael Morpurgo;  1st time reading

As it is Half Term the boys have added to the usual amount of books.  Alexander has already read two books and is on the third.  See him review The Golden Goose by Dick King-Smith

Kaliyl 14

Dark Calling by Darren Shaw
Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo
Varjak Paw by SF Said
The Thirty Nine Steps by John Buchan introduced by Stuart Kelly
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Curious Incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon

By the time I had asked what he was reading, Kaliyl had read 3 books.  This was on Tuesday!
